UNSW ASIA PIONEER STUDENTS: A TRULY INTERNATIONAL MIX!
The first group of students at the University of New South Wales’ Singapore campus, UNSW Asia, began classes on Monday 13 March, 2007. One in three of the students come from the region: India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, and Australia, and from as far away as Italy and the Netherlands. Seven in 10 places at UNSW Asia have been snapped up by Singaporeans, amongst whom are several that had secured places in the three local Singapore universities. The students said they were attracted by the university's double-degree programmes and the opportunity to study for a year in Sydney.
International Talent in Teaching & Research
The faculty at UNSW Asia is also uniquely multicultural with a third of the 50-strong faculty being Australian, another third Singaporean, and the last third drawn from around the world, including the United States and Europe.
Scholarships & Research Prospects
UNSW Asia offers scholarships to students with outstanding academic results. Open to all students who are offered a place at UNSW Asia in the March and August 2007 intakes, the UNSW Asia Scholarships include a range of full-tuition fee, part-tuition fee and one year scholarships to fund the student’s studies at UNSW Asia. Selection for the tuition grants and scholarships is made on academic excellence and tuition grants and scholarships from UNSW Asia are not bonded. For the March intake, nine per cent of the students received tuition grants.
"UNSW Asia's tuition grants and scholarships aim to attract the best and the brightest, from all disciplines, regardless of nationality. This is fundamentally aligned with UNSW Asia's strong focus on academic excellence and reflects our commitment to contribute to Singapore's goal of becoming a regional education hub," said UNSW Asia President, Professor Greg Whittred.
Research scholarships are offered to both PhD and Masters students for studies commencing in 2007.
